While you wait
Water problem?
Turn the water off at the meter (usually at the front boundary), and the pressure comes off the problem immediately. We'll talk you through it on the phone if you can't find it.
Gas smell?
Turn the gas off at the meter if it's safe to reach, open windows and doors, and don't operate switches or flames. If the smell is strong, leave the building first and call from outside.
